A view of Dan y Bryn Cheshire Home
Leonard Cheshire Disability supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK and works in 52 countries. Dan y Bryn Cheshire Home is situated in Heol Isaf near the centre of Radyr and provides a home for 33 residents who suffer from severe physical disabilites and complex needs.
Work has started on major redevelopment, a project which includes rebuilding the existing home to provide more modern facilites for all the service users. The work will not be completed until 2011.
A funding committee has been set up to help raise funds for specific areas of this project and we will be keeping the community aware of events and fund raising activities over the next year. The management are aware that the initial work has caused some inconvenience to both residents at the home and the local community.
Welcome to the Dan y Bryn Cheshire Home website. Dan y Bryn is a registered care home and is part of Leonard Cheshire Disability. The Home currently provides housing and support for 33 people with a wide range of physical, sensory and learning difficulties. Situated in the middle of Radyr in an orginal Edwardian house, this was the home of Sir Lewis Lougher, a local industrialist and politician until his death in 1955.
The home currently employs 60 staff and is the largest employer in the community. The residents are drawn from five neighbouring local authorities - Cardiff, Merthyr Rhondda Cynon Taff, Caerphilly, Bridgend and The Vale of Glamorgan.

Leonard Cheshire Disability in partnership with Foresters launched "Readability 2009-10" at Techniquest on Monday 22nd June. Readability is a partnership between sponsors' organisations, primary schools and Leonard Cheshire Disability. The partnership aims to promote literacy, joint fundraising and disability awareness to primary school pupils. Special activity booklets have been produced to help children of key stage 1 age to read more, fund raise for both the charity and their school and create disability awareness. Schools in the area will be contacted soon in order that they may participate in the scheme in October of this year. Arrangements are being made to print this material bi-lingually in order to include all the primary schools in Wales.
Foresters are providing funding towards the UK-wide roll out of this programme in four regions - London, Leicester, Edinburgh and Cardiff.
